The 53rd Annual SkillsUSA Tennessee State Conference will be held March 19-21, 2018 at the Chattanooga Convention Center Two Carter Plaza, Chattanooga, TN 37402

Each contestant will follow the technical standards on what equipment and supplies that will be needed for their contests. If equipment needs or standards for the state contest vary from the national standards these contest updates will be located on our website ASAP

Contest Official Dress Requirements: The official dress is specified in the 2017-18 SkillsUSA Technical Standards and must be purchased through the SkillsUSA storeClick here to view "Official Contest Dress" poster.

Resume Requirement: Copies of a one-page typewritten resume (personal data sheet) will be required for each contestant at state. 
MAP Monday
MAP Monday will guide your students on an experience that will allow them to Measure, Achieve and Prove they are ready for the workplace.

MAP Monday will take place on Monday at the Tennessee State Leadership and Skills Conference. Times will be 8:00 am - 11:00 am and 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm to allow students time to also participate in Volunteer Service opportunities.

Monday Night:  Opening Ceremony will be held will be held jointly with secondary again this year at UTC McKenzie Arena. Show your chapter and school spirit by participating in the parade of banners, prior to opening ceremony. Just like at the National Leadership and Skills Conference, one item of school pride is encouraged and a banner for your school. No noisemakers please. Dress will be "Official Dress" or "Business Dress". 
Tuesday Night: Tuesday night we will host a dinner for all persons registered at the Chattanooga Convention Center followed by a night at the Aquarium for those that wish to attend. Dinner and Aquarium entry are included in the price of registration. Attendees will be asked to wear their conference shirt to dinner and the t-shirt will serve as your ticket into the Aquarium that evening. 

If TCAT students or employees have special guests that would like to attend the dinner, please register them as Guest-Dinner Only. The fee for the Dinner only guest is $35. If you have guests that would like to go to the Aquarium on Tuesday evening register them as Guest-Aquarium ONLY. Guest tickets for the Aquarium only are $12. Guests that would wish to attend dinner and the Aquarium should register as Guest –Aquarium & Dinner for $47. 

Wednesday Awards Session:  Wednesday Morning’s Award Session will be held jointly with the secondary association at UTC McKenzie Arena. In accordance with the National rules, all students receiving awards on Wednesday should be in either "Official Dress" or "Contest Dress" as described in the 2017-18 SkillsUSA Technical Standards.

Volunteer Service Projects: Project Giving Back to Chattanooga is an opportunity for students and other attendees to participate in community service. 

To register for the volunteer service opportunity, please complete the volunteer service form at: deadline for registration is Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Please complete a form for each participant.

Transportation Schedule for off-site locations: The following transportation pick-up and drop-off location is the entrance outside of the Banquet Hall lobby at Chattanooga Convention Center.

2 Buses
6:30 am - 4:00 pm - Bus departs from Chattanooga Convention Center going to Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Chattanooga campus. One bus will leave Convention Center headed to TCAT Chattanooga, and then it will go onto Local 43. The other bus will leave at 6:00 a.m. headed to Virginia College. Buses will continue running the route until 4:00 pm.

3 Buses
5:00 pm - 9:30 pm - Bus departs from Chattanooga Convention Center going to McKenzie Arena. Bus will return to McKenzie at 7:30 pm and run route until 10:00 pm. Last bus leaves McKenzie at 10:00 pm.

3 Buses
6:00 am - 3:00 pm - Bus departs from Chattanooga Convention Center going to TCAT Chattanooga campus. Two buses will leave Convention Center headed to TCAT Chattanooga, and then it will go onto Local 43. The other bus will leave at 6:00 am headed to Virginia College. Buses will continue running the route until 3:00 pm.

6:00 am - 8:00 am - Bus departs from Chattanooga Convention Center going to McKenzie Arena. Bus will return to McKenzie at noon to run route until 1:00 pm. Last bus leaves McKenzie at 1:00 pm.

Action Skills & Employment Application Process 
Contestants must have an identified disability as classified under the provisions of Public Law 105 - 17, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, 1997, in order to participate.

Additive Manufacturing
Additive Manufacturing Contest

Contestants must bring the following equipment: all tools listed in the technical standards (except the Cut-resistant Level 3 gloves), personal protective equipment including safety glasses and leather gloves, 4 foot ladder, and Saw Horses. Contest will include use of metal studs.

Collision Repair & Automotive Refinishing
Required Items for Contestants:
- Hand Tools
- Air Tools
- Multiple air fittings
 - Welding shield, gloves, sleeves
- NIOSH approved Respirator for refinishers (required to compete!!!)
- We will not have respirators available for borrowing.

Materials will be supplied:
- Body filler, spreaders, razor blades, masking tape, plastic repair materials, dust masks, scuff pads, dry guide coat
- DA Paper will be 6" adhesive backed
- File paper will be adhesive backed
- Paint for the refinish contest will be Axalta waterborne/urethane clearcoat
- Sprayguns will be loaned, no need to bring your own

A couple of rules to be aware of:
- Instructors are absolutely not allowed in the shop area during contest hours
- Mobile phone use is prohibited during the contest
- No communicating with people outside the contest area
- Safety glasses must be worn at all times in the shop area

Community Action Project
Contestants must email Julie Brewer at for an interview appointment by Wednesday, March 22, 2017All electronic files (Powerpoint, PDF, Word, Prezi, etc.) should be emailed to Julie Brewer no later than Friday, April 7, 2017. Contestants should bring their presentations on a memory card or flashdrive. If the contestant brings his/her own laptop, then the contestant must also bring the necessary hookups (cables, cords, etc.) to connect to the projector.

Contestants can use a synthetic hair mannequin for the long hair design at the state conference. Please note that this is not the type of manikin used at the national conference so contestants need to be prepared for that if they are eligible to compete at nationals.

Electrical Construction Wiring
Contestants will need to bring their own hand tools for the contest including a 1/2″ conduit bender and safety glasses. Contestants can use either 2008, 2011, or 2014 NEC code book for their contest.

Your Notebook needs to be delivered by Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 4:00 pm. If you can’t get it delivered physically by the deadline then you need to scan it and email to by the deadline.

Contestants will be assigned a time for an one-on-one interview between 12-4 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017 at the State Leadership and Skills Conference after registration has closed. An email will be sent to the advisor listed in registration with the appointed interview time.

Industrial Motor Control
In addition to tool list on technical standards contestants must bring 1/2 inch conduit bender, battery powered drill with screw bits, personal protective equipment (no hard hats required), multi-meter, and contest will use some metal clad cable so be prepared to install with appropriate equipment.

Job Interview & Employment Application Process
Contestants in both Job Interview & Employment Application Process contests must complete an Online Job Application, and submit their Resume Online by Monday, March 20, 2017. Contestants should also bring copies of their resume for the interview portion of the contest held during state conference. Contestants should be “applying” for a position that is within their training program. We will not post a specific position title for this contest.

Robotics and Automation Technology
Contestants need to review new score sheet for updates to standards covered by the contest. Students to recruit for this contest could be from Electro-Mechanical, Industrial Maintenance, and/or Mechatronics programs or those that are completing the Industrial Specialty in Electronics Technology program.

Competitors must have an understanding of:
- PLCs
- Pneumatics
- Circuit Set-up for PLC Automation
- Sensor integration including: press, position, proximity, and photo
- SCORBASE Software (used at Nationals)
- Siemens PLC Software
- Fanuc Robots

Web Design
Contest technologies/frameworks/libraries that include pre-written code are NOT allowed. This would include frameworks such as Bootstrap, Foundations, and Get Skeleton and libraries such as jQuery and React. Contestants will need to use vanilla HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to design their website.

Welding Fabrication
Contestants need to bring their own:
PPE Equipment, Grinder and Pads, Center Punches, Markers / Soap Stone, and 25/64″ Drill Bit. All other material will be provided by the Technical Committee.
