Postsecondary Tennessee State Skills Conference Registration Information
The 48th Annual SkillsUSA Tennessee State Conference was held at the Chattanooga Convention Center on Second Broad Street April 21-24, 2013. The 2013 State Medalist are available in the download section below.
The Marriott Hotel located at Second Carter Plaza will serve as the Headquarters. State Conference registrations had to be submitted on-line by March 15, 2013. Monday night general session will be held at 6:00pm for all Postsecondary conference attendees, both advisors and students, in Marriott Plaza B & C. The Tuesday Night General Session Dinner will be held from 7:00pm - 9:30pm for all postsecondary registrants in Convention Center Exhibit Hall C. Dress will be "Official Dress" or "Business Dress".

Steamfitters Local #43 bldg (at 3009 Riverside Dr) and Chattanooga State Campus.
Both buses will alternate running a continuous route from the Convention Center to
Chattanooga State until 5 PM.

Contest Official Dress Requirements: Contestants must be in “Official Dress” as outlined in the 2013-14 Technical Standards for each contest. Awards Session Dress: In accordance with the National rules, all students receiving awards on Wednesday should be in "Official Dress" for their contest area as described in the 2013-14 Technical Standards. Click HERE to view "Official Contest Dress" poster. Reminder to contestants about OSHA regulations when consulting "official dress". If your contest area is in an industry that would require additional protective equipment like steel toe boots, safety glasses, etc...per OSHA regulations then your judges will expect you to wear/bring appropriate footwear/protective devices for your competition.
Architectural and Technical Drafting
Contestants will need to bring a flash drive.
2:00pm - Monday April 22, 2013 - Contest Briefing, Equipment setup/printer configuration at the contest area in the exhibit hall.
Automotive Refinishing and Collision Repair Technology
Contestants need to bring all tools and safety equipment necessary to complete their task.
Contestants need to report on Monday to Chattanooga State by 12:00pm for roll call. At 1:00pm job interviews and written exam will start. Contestants will need to be at Chattanooga State on Tuesday by 8:00am and contest will start at 8:30 am.
Scope of Automotive Refinishing contest: job interview & resume, written exam, estimate, paint, color tint and spot repair. Scope of Collision Repair contest: job interview & resume, written exam, estimate, dent repair, plastic repair, welding, frame measurements.
Barbering
The theme for this year will be education. Any taper style will be acceptable as long as it demonstrates the use of 0 to 45 degrees and/or angles within the haircut. See additional documents below.
Career Pathways Showcase
The contest will take place on Monday. Set-up starts at 1:00. Students have 1 1/2 hours to set up and then judging begins at 2:30pm.
This is the order that the contest takes place in:
1. The judges review the team's notebook. Then time and watch their presentation.. The presentation can be no longer than 8 minutes. There is no minimum presentation time.
2. The school name can be used in the presentation since it is to be tied back to their school and/or community.
4. The presentation set-up is 1 1/2 hours and must be completed on or before 2:30pm Monday.
5. Contestants may wear clothing that demonstrates their profession or official dress.
6. The can simulate but are not to preform a live medical procedure such as an inject or blood drawing during the demonstration for state.
Community Service
Monday - No Test / No Meeting
Tuesday 8:30 a.m. - Contest - TTC Chattanooga Room # 38 a Computer lab with a projector that will run PPTs.

Customer Service
Workforce Ready Online Testing Window - April 5 - 16, 2013
Tuesday 8:30 a.m. - Contest - Convention Center Meeting Room #15 & Holding Area - Convention Center Foyer.
CNC Milling or CNC Turning
Contestants must be dressed in their uniform and bring their current resume`, as well as pencil, and paper for their contest. You are also allowed to bring a calculator and a machinist handbook or reference guide. The competition will consist of two parts, there will be a written test covering either CNC Milling or CNC Turning, depending on the competition you entered, and you will be required to create a G code program for the part print provided during the contest.
Esthetics
This years theme is: The Wizard of Oz, and state contestants are to follow the national theme.
First Aid/CPR, Practical Nursing, Nurse Assisting, and Medical Assist
CPR portion of the above contests will be using American Heart Association's 2010 Guidelines, which uses the CAB sequence (Chest Compressions - Airway - Breathing).
HVAC and Plumbing
The HVAC and Plumbing contests will no longer be held at the Chattanooga Convention Center. They will instead take place at: Plumbers and Steamfitters UA Local 43, 3009 Riverside Drive Chattanooga, TN 37406 (423) 698–6991
*There will be buses available to transport your students to and from the competition.
Industrial Motor Control
Each contestant will need to have a copy of the 2011 National Electrical Code book with them to take the test on Monday, as there are several questions relating to the code. See additional documents below.
Mechatronics
Post-secondary students need to bring their own laptop, PLCs, programming cable and software on their computers.
Marine, Motorcycle Service, & Power Equipment Technology Contests
Contestants must bring safety glasses, copy of their resume, and wear official dress to the contest on Tuesday April 23. Contest briefing will start at 8:00am in TTC Lower buildings room 58C. Advisors are allowed to attend the briefing, but must leave once the contest has started. The contest will begin no later than 8:15am. During the briefing a time will be announced for the contest debriefing and advisors are encouraged to attend for important information. Cell phone use of any kind during the contest is grounds for disqualification. Contestants are allowed to use their own multi meter during the contest.
Mobile Robotics
State contest will NOT have written exam. See additional documents below.
Nail Care
Right hand - all 5 fingers will be sculpted with acrylic using forms NO TIPS
Left hand - all 5 fingers will have tips applied and overlay with wraps.
Nail art is applied to all 5 fingers of left hand. A theme is to be carried out on all 5 fingers including a written description of the theme. Contestants must have written and submitted a description of the theme they intend to create at contest check in. Themes must be typed and must be contained in plastic sleeve. Once judging is complete, props may be used to enhance art during the parade of models. All art must be created using polishes, lacquers, and/or paint only.

Sustainability Solutions Demo Contest (is no longer display, but single contestant contest)
Contestants need to bring Multimeter and safety glasses.
The contest will evaluate each contestant’s preparation for employment and to recognize outstanding students for excellence and professionalism in the field of Sustainable Technologies. The scope of the contest will be consistent with the industry standards outlined in the competencies for entry-level Renewable Energy professionals as outlined by the Electronic Technicians Association (ETA) and the National Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) and the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET). Welding
The two drawings for this years welding competition are available in downloads listed below.
Some of the written exams will be online tests from the Work Force Ready System called SkillConnect Exams. The State Director will email lead advisors at each TTC directions for proctoring SkillConnect Exams which are scheduled for April 3-16, 2013. Advisors have until end of day on April 16th to proctor the exams. The order has been placed by State Director Chelle Travis, and vouchers will be emailed ASAP once the order has been filled. Résumé Requirement
All competitors must create a one-page hard copy résumé and submit this to the contest committee chair at the contest orientation (If a contest does not have orientation until the day of the contest at state then contestants will turn in their resume then). Failure to do so will result in a 10 point penalty. Competitors can bring a résumé to the contest on the day of competition however, the penalty will remain in effect.
